Cyrielle Vaillant

PhD student in sociology since 2022 at the University of Bordeaux and INRAE, within the ‘Environment, Territories in Transition, Infrastructure, Societies’ (ETTIS) laboratory, supervised by Valérie Deldrève (INRAE/ETTIS) and Laurence Granchamp (University of Strasbourg/INRAE-ETTIS).

Her research focuses on how urban agriculture is established in working-class neighbourhoods through the implementation of the ‘Quartiers fertiles’ scheme run by the National Agency for Urban Regeneration (ANRU); specifically, how public policy frames the narrative of the socio-ecological transition and pre-determines issues of justice. To what extent do collective dynamics support this narrative and address issues of social, food and environmental justice?

With a Master’s degree in sociology, Cyrielle has also trained in visual sociology, ranging from photography and video to drawing and painting. Committed to this approach and attuned to this medium of dialogue, her research explores the dissemination of artistic and, more broadly, cultural messages, focusing on the ‘construction’ of images of neighbourhoods as an issue that reflects both power relations and the desire to reclaim and transform stigmas.
