Renda Belmallem

PhD student in philosophy and sociology at Université Paris Cité (UPC) within the ‘Philosophy, Sociology, Semiology & Politics’ (PHILéPOL) research group, and at the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE) within the ‘Environment, Territories in Transition, Infrastructure, Societies ’ (ETTIS), supervised by Razmig Keucheyan (UPC/PHILéPOL) and Valérie Deldrève (INRAE/ETTIS).

Her research focuses on environmental and climate justice movements led by people from postcolonial immigrant backgrounds and working-class neighbourhoods in mainland France, and examines how the environmental movement is being reshaped against a backdrop of growing recognition of ‘systemic oppressions’; she also analyses the issues of ‘belonging’ and ‘toxicity’ drawing on the work of bell hooks. Renda is a graduate of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), where she completed two Master’s degrees (Political Studies and Gender Studies), holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Lyon II (Lumière), and also studied at Sciences Po Lyon (2014–2018). Renda is a lecturer at the University of Paris 8 Vincennes–Saint-Denis and at Sciences Po Lille.
